Got an attic full of junk? Been meaning to clear out that cupboard for ages? We have all been there. It's something that we just keep putting off, always something more important to do. Well do you know that your junk can make money and help in your quest to get rich? Dont just click to another page because you have read the word 'junk' If I were to tell you that I worked car boot sales every week for 2 months along with a friend and she raised enough money for a vacation to Florida from the U.K. paid for from the profits, would you believe me? Well it is perfectly true and I am about to tell you how to turn your unwanted junk into a money making enterprise just by hosting a garage sale.
Car boot sales and garage sales are a great money making opportunity! The U.K seems to favour car boot sales as opposed to garage sales, but turn into any street on a weekend in the U.S and you are almost certain to come across a garage sale. I am pretty sure that within the next couple of years garage sales will explode in the U.K, why not be there at the start. All you need is an advert in the local newsagent and a few flyers through doors.
You will be entering into garage / car boot sales with a different mindset from most folk. You are there, not just to fill an empty weekend and make a few pounds. You are there to turn your old junk into a profitable business.
Don't expect to make mega bucks at your first sale. You will probably end the day with £20 - £50 profit, but remember it is all profit, you were going to throw those old books and videos out anyway. The temptation at this point is to think, ' it's only £50, I may as well spend the money on a nice meal and a few drinks'. Wrong decision! Profits safely tucked away, you are now going to scour the local free ads paper, supermarket pinboards, Ebay, and you will spend the money you made at your last sale on goods for your next sale. You are going to visit friends and family to ask if they have any unwanted items they would like taken off their hands and the next weekend you are going to pitch your stall up again. This time you will have the goods you purchased from your last sales profits, donated items from friends and family plus any leftovers from your last sale( there will be a few) Remember this is a different week, different goods on sale, different weather conditions and different customers. Say you had £50 profit from last week and you have purchased 10 items for resale costing £5.00 each. You now put them on sale for £8.00 each. Right away your profit has gone from £50 to £80. Added to this you have the donated goods, lets say you make £30 profit there, plus your leftovers from the last sale make you another £20. £50 profit has now become £130.
Put your £130 aside and get busy again, searching local ads etc and this week your profits will rise again. Now, by this point, in your third week, you should have somewhere between £200 - £300 profit, not bad money, considering it was made from junk you no longer had any use for.
There is only so much profit to be made from car boot and garage sales so by this point you should be thinking of broadening your horizons. Everyone is different in the things that interest them. You may have a love and knowledge of antiques. If this is the case, think about investing the money in a few pieces and selling them at Auction for a profit. You may decide you would like to concentrate on one thing, this could be anything from household furniture to stuffed toys. You should, by this point be searching Ebay, Exchange & Mart etc. for wholesalers who will supply you with the items you wish to sell. Selling your stock is simple - ads on pinboards in supermarkets, local newspaper, business cards or even a sticker in the back window of your car advertising yourself as a trader. In the U.K it is legal requirement to purchase a Traders Licence from your local Council before you can begin trading.
The only difficult part of building up wealth and a profitable business in garage sales is steadfastly laying aside the profits every week and re-investing it into your business. If you have followed the guidelines laid out here you should have a profitable business with very few overheads.
